Quilt Along - Week 6

I'm technically on schedule, since I finished at 11:33 on Sunday night, right?

It's officially too big for me to comfortably work with on my table. So it's spending a lot of time on the floor. I'm getting better as I go along, going faster, and getting a lot less frustrated. Two weeks ago, I was almost ready to give up (that's when the time out came into play). Now, I'm so eager to see it all finished! And it won't be long!!

Character

I've been so busy working on both quilts that I haven't had time to blog! My new machine came in last week, and it's definitely been getting a workout. I love it! Check out my messy workspace. I am by no means a neat, organized crafter...or person, for that matter.

To sum up, I've finished Kendall's quilt top, and I've done this week's quilt along assignment.

I was talking to Melissa the other day, telling her that I'm not super happy about some of the imperfections in Kendall's quilt, to which she assured me that those "little" imperfections give the quilt character.

Well, let me just say, both of these quilts will have oodles of character! They are far from perfect, but I'm trying to be okay with that.

Anyways, here's Kendall's quilt top. I don't know why, but I don't feel like showing the whole thing. I think I'll wait til it's all done.

And here's Cami's.

Fabric!

Today, the LA Modern Quilt Guild took a field trip! We first met at Starbucks, where one regular (I'm guessing) customer said it was about a decibel louder than normal. Then it was off to Michael Levine's to take a tour and browse their beautiful and plentiful fabrics! Did I mention we were given 20% off our purchases? Yeah...

I did good, though - I didn't go overboard. I bought fabric that I needed for Kendall's Christmas/Birthday Quilt (what was supposed to be the original "first quilt"). The pink and red will be used for the front of the quilt, and the other two will be for the back. I've ordered the jelly roll I need for the coin part of the quilt, so I'm pretty much all set.

When I bought my fabric for Cami's quilt, I had no idea what to do for the back, so I only bought the fabric I needed for the front. Now I know what I'm gonna do, so I was really on the lookout for more of the Apple Collection fabric at the store. Unfortunately, I only found one of them, but I bought what I needed of that.

My one "splurge" was this darling fabric that I couldn't resist! I have absolutely no idea what to do with it, but I just had to have it.

After shopping, we went to lunch at Clifton's, which was unexpected, weird, and fun! I had a great time finally getting to know some of the ladies, I officially became a member, and I'm looking forward to our next get together!

When I came home, I learned about Kendall's new hat (in case you can't tell, it's her panties).

And I was greeted by this little monkey.

Life is good.

Quilt Along - Week 2

We got back from our vacation last night. It was an amazing vacation, but to say I was obsessed with the quilt along while I was gone would be an understatement. Needless to say, as soon as I got a few minutes this morning, I started cranking out this week's assignment. Even though I finished the block, I haven't finished the assignment, because I only sewed two pairs of strips together, just so I could get this done. Hey, I do have a lot of laundry and unpacking to do! But at least I'm satisfied with seeing some results!

So here it is - the center block for the quilt!

Not bad, although it's not perfect, and I'm really trying to not obsess about that. After I sewed the 4-patch together, and saw that the corners didn't line up, I ripped out the seam and tried again. It's better than it was, but they still didn't line up. But I told myself not to rip out the seam again, and to just leave it be. I need to be happy with "it's good enough." I also didn't allow myself to obsess about which fabrics to choose for the center block. So I picked, changed my mine once, and that was it. If I obsess about these "little" things, I'll never finish it.

Quilt Along - Week 1

Yesterday, we were given instructions on how to cut all the fabric. I started last night, and just finished this afternoon.

I'm still so in love with this fabric, and I'm so happy I get to use it for something! I'm ready to dive in and start sewing, but it'll have to wait. We're going on vacation in a few days, and the next set of instructions won't be posted until next week anyway. Which I'm kind of glad about. It's nice to have a break in between instructions so I don't get so rushed with it. I want this to be nice and I want to take my time with it. I think the quilt along will keep me focused.
