It's Been A While!

The very first quilt that I pieced was for my oldest daughter, Kendall.  She was born on Christmas Day, and so when I decided that I'd pick up quilting, I thought I'd start with one for her - a Christmas quilt - and then see how I liked quilting.

Well, a year and a half later, and that quilt is still not finished!  The piecing came together pretty quickly.  And I actually sandwiched it pretty early on, too.  But other things kept popping up to keep me from finishing it.

Sometime last year, I did start to quilt it, but 1) my tension was off, and 2) I didn't like the way I was quilting it.  Which meant I had to rip.  And I hate ripping!  Until this past weekend, the last time I even touched this quilt was last Christmas.

But I finally got all the bad quilting ripped out, and restarted!

After my Solids Challenge Quilt, I can't even believe I've come back to pebbling.  I swore I would never pebble again!  But, I'm only going to pebble in the white sashing.  Everywhere else, I'm straight-line quilting.  It's a twin-sized quilt, so it's kind of slow-going, but I'm really liking it, and it may even be done in time for her birthday/Christmas Day!

  1. It's funny how this works. My first quilt was also for my daughter, and I got as far as piecing the top and quit. I have all the fabric to finish it, I just haven't. I am glad you are finishing yours and I really like the idea of combining the pebbles with the straight stitches!

  8. It will feel so good once you finish it. I have a wip that's a year and a half old now, but somehow something else always comes in between...

  9. I love the Pebble stitch, however I have yet to be brave enough to do it myself, but you are inspiring! It looks fantastic with the straight stitching, very nicely done!

  10. When I first started quilting I was soooo good at finishing the projects. Now however I see so many temptations online every day it's a totally different ballgame though. The quilting looks really neat.

  18. I don't even know what it means to pebble. If it's a machine quilting that would be why. I'm not able to machine quilt with my machine.
