The very first quilt that I pieced was for my oldest daughter, Kendall. She was born on Christmas Day, and so when I decided that I'd pick up quilting, I thought I'd start with one for her - a Christmas quilt - and then see how I liked quilting.
Well, a year and a half later, and that quilt is still not finished! The piecing came together pretty quickly. And I actually sandwiched it pretty early on, too. But other things kept popping up to keep me from finishing it.
Sometime last year, I did start to quilt it, but 1) my tension was off, and 2) I didn't like the way I was quilting it. Which meant I had to rip. And I hate ripping! Until this past weekend, the last time I even touched this quilt was last Christmas.
But I finally got all the bad quilting ripped out, and restarted!
After my Solids Challenge Quilt, I can't even believe I've come back to pebbling. I swore I would never pebble again! But, I'm only going to pebble in the white sashing. Everywhere else, I'm straight-line quilting. It's a twin-sized quilt, so it's kind of slow-going, but I'm really liking it, and it may even be done in time for her birthday/Christmas Day!
It's funny how this works. My first quilt was also for my daughter, and I got as far as piecing the top and quit. I have all the fabric to finish it, I just haven't. I am glad you are finishing yours and I really like the idea of combining the pebbles with the straight stitches!
ReplyDeleteOooh! Love the quilting! I'm confident you'll get it done in time for her birthday. You're a machine! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the combo of the stright line and the swirly quilting. Perfect!

My first quilt was also one for my daughter! You are going to have such a feeling of satisfaction when you get this one done!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have the quilting well underway, have fun finishing it.
ReplyDeletehave fun finishing, it's always a great feeling to check it off the list!
ReplyDeleteRipping out quilting.....not fun. I totally hear you there. That dotty fabric is just great though.
ReplyDeleteIt will feel so good once you finish it. I have a wip that's a year and a half old now, but somehow something else always comes in between...
ReplyDeleteI love the Pebble stitch, however I have yet to be brave enough to do it myself, but you are inspiring! It looks fantastic with the straight stitching, very nicely done!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first started quilting I was soooo good at finishing the projects. Now however I see so many temptations online every day it's a totally different ballgame though. The quilting looks really neat.
ReplyDeleteI'm with ya, I hate ripping out! Good for you for getting this going again.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Congrats on getting started on it again!
ReplyDeleteI spent most of my weekend ripping out, but once I was done quilting it felt so good it made it all worthwhile!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more, ripping out quilting stitches is just extra painful! I think what you're doing looks really lovely, good for your for keeping on with it!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for picking it up again. And for trying pebbling again!
ReplyDeleteIt will be nice to have it all put together... and your pebbling looks great!
ReplyDeleteoh can't wait to see it finished, the pebbling looks good
ReplyDeleteI don't even know what it means to pebble. If it's a machine quilting that would be why. I'm not able to machine quilt with my machine.
ReplyDeleteRipping is NOT fun. Glad it's coming together!
ReplyDeleteGood for you to get this project going again. It will be fun to see the finished project.
ReplyDeleteWhoo Hoo!! I know it feels good to be making progress again.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with getting it completed :o)
