Yikes!

Some of you know, some of you don't, but in a couple of days, my family and I will be heading to Japan, of all places!  Why, you ask?  My husband's brother is stationed in Okinawa, and since we're leaving the West Coast in 41 days (!) and my brother-in-law is leaving Japan in late August, we figured we should get our butts in gear, and just go!

And actually, we were already supposed to be there.  But the entire family got sick.  Sick, sick, sick!  So we had to switch the tickets.  It would not be fun flying to Japan while puking our guts out.  Or maybe it would, I don't know.  But we didn't want to risk it.  Here's a picture of my baby over the weekend...it's pretty pitiful!

PS - being sick also meant I had to miss my LAMQG meeting this past Monday.  I was not happy about that!

So...yeah.  I'm a little scared, a little nervous, a little excited, a little curious.  We've travelled alot, but never to an Asian country, and I'm a little intimidated by the language - written and spoken.  At least in Europe, you can kind of sound out the words and maybe figure out what you're trying to say.  I don't know how that works in Japan.

And in case you're wondering, I am hoping to find some cheap Echino or Heather Ross on my journey!  My husband told me last night, "You do know that this is not a fabric-shopping trip, right?"  Of course, I know that, but that doesn't mean I can't shop for fabric!  We'll be going to Tokyo first, and that's where I'm hoping to find what I'm looking for.

In the meantime, here's a camera strap I made for my friend Marchelle.  This was part of my Facebook Pay It Forward in 2011 thing, so this is another project crossed of my list!  Yay!  If you read my blog regularly, you'll remember that I attempted making her one a few months ago, and then greedily kept it for myself.  I couldn't duplicate it exactly, because I only had a scrap of that Heather Ross fabric, but I made it work, I think.

So I'll be absent from the blog world for a while, but I'll give a full report when we're back in the States.

  2. I need to bust out another camera strap, too. Thanks for reminding me! Maybe this one won't take me weeks and weeks to complete. :)
