I got the most amazing package in the mail yesterday, from my dear friend, Melissa! She sent all four of us a little something.
First up, she made the girls matching jean purses, and they are just too cute! Both girls were so excited when they opened their gifts. She sent Grant a Snickers bar, which you can tell by the empty wrapper, he has already enjoyed (it's scary how excited he got over a candy bar), and then she sent me a few cute things. She made a little hexie needlebook (I had to explain that one to Grant a couple of times, and I still don't think he got it), a cute little brooch, some awesome reindeer knee-socks, and the best gift of all...........
This was technically for my 30th birthday back in June, which was the time that I joined the LA Modern Quilt Guild, and it wasn't a surprise to me, but this was the first time I saw the finished product. Melissa had a lot of the members sign their names on pieces of fabric, then she embroidered over their signature, sewed them altogether, made this cool logo of the Guild, and quilted it all! This will proudly hang in my craft room - whenever I get one.
Can I just mention that some of the most amazing quilters signed this thing - we're talking Alissa of Handmade by Alissa, Latifah of The Quilt Engineer, Liz of Lady Harvatine, Chris of Izzy Inspired, Emily of Seventeen and Em, Katie of Katie Made, Jamie of Bricolage & Butter, just to name a few (I was going to add the links, but they're all listed on the right). Am I a lucky girl, or what?
Melissa's idea behind this is that since my husband (and hers, too) is in the Air Force, we won't be here forever (Melissa moved away a month ago, but I'm still in denial), so she wanted me to have a memento of my time here. There will be other guilds, but the LA one is the one that started it all, and that's a very special thing!
So thank you, Melissa. I will seriously treasure this little gem for a long, long time!
Hi Kelly. What a great suprise! I love the signed quilt. I think you need to fix your hyperlink (you accidently linked to my blog, although I would love to take credit for this awesome gift)
ReplyDeletethanks, melissa! you're both melissa, and you both have "sew" in your blog name, so i quickly picked one. :) i fixed it.
ReplyDeleteThe LAMQG quilt is not just beautiful in sentiment... but it's downright breathtaking! I love the stitch lines through the lettering. Love everything about it - what a cherished quilt, Kelly!
