Here's the one I did for the improv curves block - I used Penny's tutorial, and I really love how this turned out.
The second block I did was a wonky log cabin, using Jacquie's tutorial...
I fell in love with this color scheme so much, that I decided to make functional blocks - something I'll actually use, instead of just making up blocks to show for a demo. So, for the next round of Bee Happy, I'll be asking for improv blocks in this color scheme. We're still smack dab in the middle of our current year, so this isn't going to be for a while, but I have a plan, which is nice!
I even managed to put together a quilt top! I had a FQ bundle of Modern Whimsy from Laurie Wisbrun (she sent a few FQ bundles for me to give as door prizes for the ECMQG, but she said I could keep some for myself), and have been wanting to make something with it for a while. This is what I came up with...
I don't know if it quite turned out the way I wanted it to, but I'm happy with it. I have to say, that fabric was awesome to work with! I don't know if it was the fact that it was organic or what, but it was just so soft!
So that's it! I'm only able to work in short increments, but hopefully my productivity will pick up soon.
Your productivity will pick up????? What are you going to do, make a quilt a day? Girl, you are cranking them out and it's awesome. I love it all, but the FQ one is definitely my favorite.
ReplyDeleteDo you sleep woman?? The baby is beautiful! And I LOVE the way your Modern Whimsy top turned out!
ReplyDeleteThe comment above makes me want to kiss your mom (or at least, hug her!). These are beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteHOW??? i am in awe of your productivity.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe he is one month old already! And look at all you have done! I'm in awe.
ReplyDeleteYou are a rockstar mom and quilter! I can't believe how quickly you jumped back into everything! yay!
ReplyDeleteyay!!! your blocks look sooooooo good!!! I am a little biased though and absolutely love the improv curved pieced block! you totally rocked it with the fabric choices. Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteRE: The improv curved block using Penny's tutorial. I am having a hard time getting my pieces to lay flat. When you lay both pieces right side up to cut the curve, does it have to be on the grain, or can you just lay it where you will get the most fabric used up, as in anywhere on the fabric, grain or bias? Penny's tutorial doesn't mention it. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I hope you see this, because I don't have an email address to respond to for you. I've never worried about the grain when doing something like this. My curved one doesn't lay totally flat, but I figure after piecing it in a quilt and quilting over it, it should be fine.
DeleteOk, thank you so much for taking the time to answer this! It's not really buckling up alot, I was just afraid I was doing something wrong because it wasn't completely flat. Also, it's hard to know if I should be stretching the fabric as I sew or if I should be trying not to stretch it. I suppose I'm doing it all right. Thank you again!
DeleteI wouldn't stretch the fabric at all. It will give a little, just because of how it's cut, so you'll have some parts that are in the bias. But I would try to not stretch it.
