A {Future} Quilt for the Boy

I'm so excited right now.  I'm not even kidding - the UPS man dropped off this package not even 20 minutes ago, and I'm already blogging about it.  Keep in mind that I opened the package, noticed an error, called customer service, and took a picture.  Excited, I tell you!

Because when I get an idea about something, I just can't think about anything else.  Can I get an Amen?!

I had this idea for a quilt for my baby.  I sketched it out over the weekend, and then picked out the fabrics I wanted.  Except I didn't pick them out in a fabric store, because none of the stores around here would carry everything I needed all in one place, but I already knew what I wanted.  So I checked out fabric.com, and they had every single item I wanted.  I didn't know if all the fabrics would go together, so it was a little risky.  But I'm happy to say they DO go together!  At least to me, they do.

Here's a look at the fabrics that will be used in this quilt.

That's Kona Snow, Alexander Henry Heath in Metal, Kona Ash, Kona Curry, Kona Peridot, and Joel Dewberry's Modern Meadow Herringbone in Lake.  The only thing missing from this picture is Kona Navy.  That's the reason I had to call customer service.  But I'll have it in a couple of days!  (I even get to keep the fabric they sent in error) Oh, and I didn't buy the Heath from Fabric.com - I already had that in my stash.

When it came to picking the color scheme for this quilt, I knew I wanted to incorporate Curry somehow, because that's my fave color right now.  And I love the way it looks with gray.  But I also like how green looks with gray, so that's where the Peridot came in.  Of course, green and navy is always a classic combo, and that herringbone print is a weakness for me.  And then I just needed the Snow to pull it together.  I think it all works!

I mentioned I already have the quilt sketched, but I also made templates for it!  And a name - Biggie Ziggie!  Reminds me of that scene in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure where the kids take Napoleon Bonaparte to eat ice cream, and he gets dubbed the Ziggy Piggy.  Don't know what I'm talking about?  Here you go...

Okay, that's what I'm so freaking excited about right now!  I just had to get all this off my chest.  Hopefully I can get started on this soon, but I have other things that are a priority, what with Christmas coming before the baby and all.  So stay tuned.

  2. ha yay! I'll give you an Amen too. I really like that stack and am looking forward to what you make of it. Navy has been on my mind the last few days, although it's a color I'm not usually drawn to, so it will be interesting to see if that actually goes anywhere!
